CLINTON, Conn. - Laura V. Heath of Clinton died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006, in Sinai Hospital, Baltimore. She was 72.
Mrs. Heath was born May 14, 1934, in Clinton, daughter of the late James and Laura Terry Ingraham.
She moved to Baltimore in January 1953 and lived with the late Grace and Carlvin Fauntleroy, who were like her second parents.
Mrs. Heath retired from Social Security Administration in 1998 after 34 years of federal service.
She was the type of person who was willing to help anyone and took on the task of caregiver to the late Stella Johnson. After Mrs. Johnson"s death, she became a receptionist and assistant at Hope Lodge with American Cancer Society from 1999 until retirement in December 2004. She had a caring spirit and would do whatever she could to help others. She always had a smile or kind words for patients coming into Hope Lodge. People looked forward to seeing bright smile when they returned from their medical treatments. She had an infectious laugh that made everyone that heard her laugh start laughing.
Mrs. Heath loved the Lord and loved helping others. She was a member of New Metropolitan Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Sanctuary Choir and the Bread of Life Food Ministry, which serves food to the homeless.
She also enjoyed visiting the casinos in Delaware.
Mrs. Heath retired from Hope Lodge and became the caregiver to her close friend and sister in Christ, Viola Boyd.
In addition to her parents and aunt, she was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Allen H. Heath; and a son, Wayne A. Heath.
She is survived by two daughters, Loretta Ingraham of Dover and Zina R. Townes of Baltimore; three grandchildren, Sharnique Hatchett and her husband, Lorenzo, of Salisbury, Md., Sheree Dupree and her husband, George, and Terrence Blizzard, all of Baltimore; three brothers, Robert Aldrich and Ronald Ingraham, both of Boston and Ricky Ingraham of Fort Wayne, Ind.; four cousins, Carolyn McCoy, Elizabeth Butler and Joan Tisdale, all of Baltimore, and Gwendolyn Ford and her husband, Clayton, of Bridgeport, Conn.; her Christian sister and friend, Viola Boyd; six great-grandchildren, including Dominique Heath of Harrington; and a host of relatives and friends.
Friends may call from 1 to 7:45 p.m. today in Estep Brothers Funeral home, 1300 Eutaw Place, Baltimore.
Homegoing services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in New Metropolitan Baptist Church, 1501 McCullough St., Baltimore, where friends may call a half an hour earlier.
Burial will follow in Arbutus Memorial Cemetery.
Instead of flowers, the family sug gests memorial contributions to the Laura V. Heath Memorial Fund, New Metropolitan Baptist Church, 1501 McCullough St., Baltimore, MD 21217.
