ROCK HALL, Md. - Laura May Sappington, of Rock Hall, died on Friday, May 30, 2008, at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis. She was 94.
She was born on July 10, 1913, in Rock Hall, the daughter of the late Singleton Arnold and Jenny West Pearman Bryden.
She was a graduate of Rock Hall High School, class of 1930.
Mrs. Sappington attended Baltimore Business School in Baltimore.
She was formerly married to Benjamin Franklin Sappington.
Mrs. Sappington worked at the main store of Hutzler's Department Store in Baltimore in sales for more than 30 years.
When she retired in 1961 she moved back to Rock Hall.
She was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and attended the Senior Citizens Group in Rock Hall.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Laura Jane Weller Quinn in 1972 and Laverne Sappington in 1934; two brothers, Albert Bryden and Vernon Bryden; and two sisters, Hazel Lauretta Marr and Mary Gladys DeCoux.
She is survived by four sons, Donald Wickes Sappington of Sacramento, Calif., Wayne Dudley Sappington of Kennedyville, Glenn Franklin Sappington of Annapolis, and Daniel James Sappington of Baltimore; three brothers, Carter Richard Bryden of Chestertown, James Gilbert Bryden of Rock Hall, and Arnold Dudley Bryden of Rock Hall; a sister, Regina I. Jacquette of Rock Hall; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, where relatives and friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Rock Hall.
