CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Kitty Smith Akers of Chestertown died Tuesday, June 26, 2007, in Chester River Hospital Center, Chestertown. She was 105.
Mrs. Akers was born Jan. 26, 1902, in London, daughter of the late James Alexander and Alice (Taylor) Smith.
In 1923 she immigrated to the United States and Rock Hall.
She enjoyed writing, traveling and flower gardening and especially entertaining her grandchildren.
Mrs. Akers was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, the Daughters of the Royal Order of the British Empire and The Eastern Star.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Capt. Hillary Akers in 1969; a grandson, Douglas Akers in 2001; and three sisters in England.
She is survived by a son, George Akers of Ooltewah, Tenn.; two daughters, Miriam Swayze of Lewis, Del., Eolin Ann Tripp of New Market, Va.; seven grandchildren, Arthur Swayze of Bellingham, Wash., Lee Swayze of Dover, Del., David Swayze of Warwick, Daniel Akers of Oceanside, Calif., Brian Tripp of Pasadena, Calif., Lisa Bailey of Vienna, Va., David Tripp of Livona, Mich.; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Rock Hall, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in St. Paul"s Cemetery, Chestertown.
Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ADRA International, 1250 Old Columbia Rd. Silver Springs, MD 20904.
