Katherine Emeline (Wagner) Hayes, 87

MILFORD - Katherine Emeline (Wagner) Hayes, of Milford, died Tuesday, March 4, 2008, in the Country Rest Home, Greenwood, with Compassionate Care Hospice in attendance. She was 87.

Mrs. Hayes was born in Viola, daughter of the late Joseph and Emeline Wagner.

She worked in Milford at the Cupie Doll Factory, painting faces.

During World War II, Mrs. Hayes worked in the ammunition factory in Milford.

After the war, she was a homemaker and part-time worker at her mother-in-law's, Serena Hayes' cafeteria, first at Muclo Products and then at Milford Stitching Co.

Mrs. Hayes was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, where she was active in the circles and Sunday school.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Farrow Wagner and Emeline Weatherby Wagner; three brothers, Joseph F. Wagner Jr., William Wagner and Robert Wagner; and two sisters, Ruth Wootten and Dorothy Wilkerson.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, John Arthur Hayes; three daughters, Linda C. Hayes of Milford, Nancy L. Meredith and her husband Jack of Lincoln and Kathy McGee and her husband Michael of Milford; four grandsons, John Meredith and Matthew Meredith, both of Lincoln, Adam McGee of Boston and Daniel McGee of Milford; and a brother, Luther Wagner of Felton.

Funeral services will be noon Saturday in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 N.W. Front St., Milford, where friends may call after 11 a.m.

Interment will be in Camden Odd Fellows Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Calvary United Methodist Church, 301 S.E. Front St., Milford, DE 19963.
