Judith grew up in Wisconsin before moving to Southern California. There she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from California State University, Los Angeles. She served as a nurse in the Army Nurse Corps, earning the rank of Second Lieutenant (2LT) and received a National Defense Service Medal. After being Honorably Discharged, she continued her nursing career as a civilian for another 30 years, retiring in 2000. Judith moved to Delaware in 2005. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church LCMS in Dover Delaware. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, crafts, card and board games, bingo, fishing, and supporting her Green Bay Packers.
In addition to her mother and father; Judith was also preceded in death by her brother, William Heffel; and her stepmother, Georgia Heffel.
Judith is survived by her daughter and son, Shannon Lyn and Brian James Oberdorfer, both of Southern California; brothers, Richard and David Heffel; sister, Jeanne Smith; nieces, Jessica (Smith) Horvath, Sarah Heffel, and Abby Kernin; nephews, Christopher, Nathan and Benjamin Heffel; and former husband, James Claude Oberdorfer, all of Wisconsin; and special friend, Judy Hannum in Tennessee.
