Joseph Hopkins Jr., 65

SEAFORD - Joseph Hopkins Jr. of Seaford passed away peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007, at home, after a brief illness. He was 65.

Joe, as he was affectionately known, loved music.

He was saved since 1983 and loved the Lord with all his heart and soul.

Joe attended New Zion United Methodist Church, Laurel.

He was a member of the M.O.T. male chorus of Middletown.

Joe also played for the Ronald Norris Singers for many years.

He attended public schools in Kent County, Md.

Joe worked for many years as an independent waterman of the Chesapeake Bay. He could shuck oysters and clams and dress fish with the best of them.

Upon leaving the water, he worked at Gillespie and Sons, Chestertown, Md., as a forklift operator.

He was recently employed at Crop Production Services, Blades, as a warehouse/truck driver.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, the Rev. Carol Sessoms Hopkins; his mother-in-law, Colona Yeoman of Newport News, Va.; his father-in-law, Russell Sessoms of Ahoskie, N.C.; his sons and daughters-in-law, Mahshan and Lisa Hopkins of Clayton, Dwayne and Shirley Wooley of New Castle, David Wooley of Newark, Terrence and Dawn Johnson of Charlotte, N.C., and Pierre Perrault of Hollywood, Fla.; one daughter, Tamani Wooley of Brooklyn, N.Y.; six grandchilren, Stephon Tilghman and Darren Stevenson of Clayton, Dashia Wooley of Newark, Alicia Wooley of Philadelphia and Veda and Davina Wooley of Newark; two great-grandchildren, Christian Wooley and Hayden Wooley, both of Philadelphia; two brothers, Clarence Beck Sr. of Rock Hall, Md., and Lloyd Hopkins and his wife Cynthia of Baltimore; a sister-in-law, Joanne Murray of Trappe, Md.; an aunt, Cora Brown of Chestertown; and a host of friends and relatives who will miss his presence immensely.

The family would like to thank Holy Trinity AME Church for its hospitality during their time of bereavement. The family also wishes to express extreme gratitude for the numerous expressions of sympathy and kindness shown during Joe's illness. May God continue to bestow His many blessings upon you.

Visitation for friends and family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Holy Trinity AME Church, Martin Wagner Road, Edesville, Rock Hall.

A celebration of life is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Interment will follow at Aaron Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

A fellowship meal will follow interment at the Holy Trinity AME Fellowship Hall.
