REHOBOTH BEACH - Joseph A. Gormley Jr. of Rehoboth Beach passed away Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 87.
Mr. Gormley was born Jan. 24, 1920, in Philadelphia, son of the late Joseph A. Sr. and Aletha (Campbell) Gormley.
Mr. Gormley was a member of St. Edmond"s Catholic Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Philadelphia, and was the oldest member and a long-standing member of 60 years of the American Legion in Philadelphia.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Mary Gormley, in 1992.
He is survived by two daughters, Gerry Letizia and Suzanne Bradley; and one son, Joseph A. Gormley III.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Edmond"s Catholic Church, King Charles and Laurel streets, Rehoboth Beach, where the family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m.
Burial will be Thursday at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Girls & Boys Town, P.O. Box 6000-Memorials, Boystown, NE 68010.
Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes.
