John Westley "Buddy" "The Fox" Simmons Jr., 60

HARTLY - John Westley "Buddy" "The Fox" Simmons Jr. of Hartly passed away Friday, June 1, 2007, in his home. He was 60.

Mr. Simmons was born in Townsend, son of the late John and Ada (Carroll) Simmons.

He was a welder and a 35-year member of the International Boilermakers Union. He retired in 2005 due to his health.

Mr. Simmons enjoyed working in his yard and garden, fishing, helping others and spending time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley "Missy" Simmons, in 1993; and, most recently, a son, John Westley Simmons III, May 3.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Shirley Ann Simmons of Hartly; a son and a daughter-in-law, Aaron Daniel Sr. and Elizabeth Simmons of Marydel, Md.; a daughter, Brandi Mae Simmons of Hartly; and six grandchildren, Arianna Simmons and Benjamin Simmons, both of Clayton, and Rachel Simmons, D.J. Simmons, Michaela Simmons and Colleen Simmons, all of Marydel; six sisters, Rosemary Brown of Felton, Susan Clymer, Sharon Daniels and Elizabeth Krisco, all of Clayton, and Joan Cosner and Caroline Cosner, both of Townsend; four brothers, William Simmons of Clayton, Ralph Simmons Sr. of Dover, Steven Simmons of Hartly and Joseph Simmons of Clayton; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services will be 8 p.m. today in Daniels and Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, where friends may call two hours earlier.

Burial will be private.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the "Brandi Simmons College Fund," c/o First National Bank of Wyoming, 28 Deak Drive, Smyrna, DE 19977.
