HOUSTON - John Wesley "Johnny" Johnson, 88, of Houston was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 16, 2014. John was born on July 30, 1926, son of the late George Lawrence Johnson and Lena Ingram. He was a WWII Naval Veteran. Mr. Johnson worked with the state police for 46 years overseeing the Transportation Department and retired from the United States Army National Guard as a decorated First Sergeant after 40 years of service. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Johnson; and brother, Charles "Bucky" Johnson. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 36 years, Maryanna Cecile (Gaylord) Johnson; sister-n-laws, Frances Johnson and Martha Nelligan; two children, John Wesley Johnson Jr. and Geraldine Young; step-children, Renee' Pugh, Joseph Cotta Jr., Sabrina Cotta and Brigitta Wyatt; six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. A visitation will be 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Friday, November 21, 2014 at Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 N.W. Front St, Milford, DE 19963. Services will follow at 12 p.m. at Berry-Short Funeral Home. Interment will be at 2 p.m. at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE 19962. The family asks that any donations be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963 or Houston United Methodist Church, 235 Broad St, Houston, DE 19954.
