John E. Gechter, 77

BOWERS - John E. Gechter, Bowers, passed away Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, in Delaware Veterans Home Milford. He was 77. He was born on April 15, 1931, in Reading, Pa., to the late Harry and Nellie Skipper Gechter. He was a member of VFW in DuBois, Pa., and the Walter L. Fox Post 2 in Dover. Mr. Gechter was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army after 23 years and was stationed in Germany in 1972 and 1973. After retirement he worked for the Space Agency then Carpenter Steel in Reading, Pa. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by wife, Ilona R. Gechter of Frederica; son and his wife, John Paul and Laura Gechter of Reading, Pa., stepson, Ernest M. Salaz of Dover; daughter, Terrie Hafer of Reading, Pa.; daughter and her husband, Tammy and Gregory Eshbach of Reading, Pa; stepdaughter, Cheryl Lissy of West Chester, Pa., stepdaughter and her husband, Lynda and Ronald Littleton of Milford; brother and his wife, George and Joan Gechter of Allentown, Pa.; brother and his wife, Harry and Laura Gechter of Reading, Pa., brother, Gary Gechter of North Carolina; granddaughter and her husband, Natasha and Seth Hoffman; granddaughter, Ashleigh Hafer; grandson and his wife, Zachary and Elizabeth Eshbach; grandsons, Ian Eshbach, Daniel Eshbach, Muriel Eshbach, John R. Gechter; granddaughters, Erica Gechter and Katrina Gechter; step-grandchildren, Mallory Littleton, Chase Littleton, Ernest Salaz and his companion Susan Tribbit, step-grandchildren, Ashley Salaz, Brittany Salaz, and Matthew Tribbit,and great-grandchild, Ethami Ramos. Remembrance Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trader Funeral Home in Dover. Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, also on Tuesday at 1 p.m. Friends may call 10 a.m. Tuesday until the time of service at the Trader Funeral Home.
