John D. Evans, 70

HANOVER, Pa. - John D. Evans, 70, of Hanover, husband of Doris Dashiell Evans, died at home on Oct. 4, 2009, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 9, 1939, he grew up in Westminster, Md., and spent many years in Dover, Del., before moving to Hanover three years ago. He had a successful career in business form sales, working with Moore Business Forms and retiring from Delta Forms in Wilmington, Del. Mr. Evans served with the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the Delaware Veterans "DelVets" Post # 2. A devoted family man, he was a man of many talents; enjoying golf, dancing, gardening, woodworking, and traveling, which included trips to the beach. He was a kind man with a strong character and a quick smile. Surviving, in addition to his wife of nearly 47 years, is a son, Michael D. Evans and his wife Lisa of Rhode Island; a daughter, Beth Wisner and her husband Wade of Hanover; two grandchildren, Ben and Kate Wisner, both of Hanover; a sister, Linda Martin; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ann and Wayne Taylor. He was preceded in death by his brother, Sterling Evans, Jr. and his step-father, Willard Armacost. The funeral will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the First United Methodist Church of Hanover with The Rev. Thomas H. Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway, Hanover.
