FELTON - John Calvin Coker, Sr. passed away, Thursday, September 9, 2021, at home.
Mr. Coker was born January 19, 1937, in Cheswold, Delaware to the late John Coker and Lillian Grace Durham Coker.
He started working for Carl Barr Plumbing & Heating, then went to work for Sears & Roebuck in downtown Dover for 23 years, as a repairman. Mr. Coker enjoyed hunting, going to the auctions and sales, small engine repairs, gardening but especially spending time with his grandchildren and family.
In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his partner of 37 years, Helen Carpenter, February 2020; brothers, Benjamin "Leroy" and Donald Coker; sisters, Eleanor McKenney, Monica Coker and Barbara Rodriguez-Velez.
He is survived by his children, Jack Coker and companion Andrea Griffith, Jeff Coker, and his wife Stephanie all of Felton; daughter, Sheila McGinness and her husband Bob of Viola; brothers, Eddie Coker, Steve Coker both of Cheswold and Ricky Coker of Hartly; sister, Joanne Moore of Texas; grandchildren, Derek McGinness (Kayla), Kasie Moorer (Rick), Cory McGinness and Bryce Coker; great grandchildren, Kilee, Weston, Paizlee and Jamison.
Funeral services will be held 1p.m., Thursday, September 16, 2021, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Interment will be in Immanuel U.M. Church Cemetery, Cheswold.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. Dupont Highway, Dover, DE 19901 or ALSAC/St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
