John Brenneman
CAMDEN-WYOMING - John Brenneman, a long time resident of Camden-Wyoming, passed away early Saturday, March 7, 2009, in Kent General Hospital, after suffering a stroke. He was born Nov. 21, 1930, in Carlisle, Pa., to the late George A. and Flossie Long Brenneman. John served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 in Germany. Upon returning home he worked with his father training and driving standard bred race horses. He went on to establish his own stable and won numerous condition and stake races in Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland. After retiring from racing, John became the official Starting Judge for the State of Delaware starting races at Brandywine, Dover and Harrington raceways. John also was the Starting Judge for Foxboro Raceway in N. Attleboro, Mass., in 1986. In his retirement John enjoyed gardening, jigsaw puzzles, making artistic latch work rugs and rooting for his Philadelphia Eagles. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Gary A. Brenneman. John is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Ruth; two brothers, Clair Brenneman of Chalfont, Pa., and Carl Brenneman of Ocean City, Md.; his daughter, Vicki McDaid and her husband Sean and their two children Sean and Roisin; his daughter, Kristi Burris and her husband Chris and their sons Jared and Chase as well as Billy Lake and their granddaughter, Aurie. He is also survived by his step-daughter, Tracy Patz of Dover and her daughter Leanne Schlup and her husband Jeremiah and their children Eternity Knox and Gavin Schlup and her son Marc Godfrey. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Harness Horse Youth Foundation, 16575 Carey Rd., Westfield, IN 46074.
