CAMDEN - Joe Michael McNair died February 17, 2022 at his home in Camden, Del. Born in North Carolina, he moved to Delaware when he was a child. After graduation, he joined Air National Guard Air Police, then the Army National Guard, retiring as a CW5 in 1994.
He started his career in law enforcement working as a police officer with Wilmington Department of Police and retired from New Castle County Police Department. He continued in the law enforcement field as a medivac pilot for the Maryland State Police, followed by Security Investigator at Dover Downs, and finally an investigator for Delaware Department of Corrections.
He will be remembered for always having a smile, kind words, and a joke for anyone. If you called him, or he saw you somewhere, your name was Gravy.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Leigh in 2010. He is survived by his brother, James (Diana) McNair; son, Sean (Bethany) McNair; daughter, Rachel; grandchildren, Gene, Kaylee, Conner, and Ashley; and three great grandchildren.
A viewing is scheduled for Wednesday, March 2, 2022 from 4 – 6 p.m. at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover, Del. His funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, March 3, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church at 523 S. State St., Dover, Del. with interment immediately following at the same location. A reception for family and friends will follow. At this time the Church is requesting that masks be worn.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe's honor to Christ Episcopal Church, 523 S. State St. Dover, DE or Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE.
