Joe Carroll Browning, 87
BETHANY BEACH - Joe Carroll Browning of South Bethany Beach, formerly of Oakland, Md., passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007. He was 87.
Born in 1920, he was a lifelong resident of Garrett County, Md., until his move to Bethany Beach in 2003.
Mr. Browning served in the U.S. Army during World War II and then came home to farm family land.
He worked at Southern States in Oakland for 23 years until his retirement.
Mr. Browning loved horses and was a local breeder of Tennessee Walkers for many years.
He is survived by three sisters, Velma Schenk and Elinore Browning, both of Bethany Beach, and Norma Bolding of Oakland; and a myriad of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, who identified him as their favorite uncle.
A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Matthew"s Episcopal Church, Second and Liberty streets, Oakland.
Burial will be private.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Joe"s name to the American Cancer Society, Sussex County Unit, P.O. Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21805; or the Ruth Enlow Library, 6 N. Second St., Oakland, MD 21550.
Arrangements by Melson Funeral Services, Ocean View.
