SUDLERSVILLE, Md. - Joanne Massey, of Sudlersville, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, in Chester River Hospital, Chestertown. She was 67.
Ms. Massey was born on April 4, 1940, in Dover, Del., daughter of the late Lawrence and Juanita Madge Kelly Massey.
She was raised in Sudlersville and lived in Galena from 1957 to 1984, before returning to Sudlersville.
Ms. Massey worked for Starkey Farms, Jim Heavlow and John Holmes Yacht Brokerage, before establishing Dixie Jo's Restaurant in Galena in 1984, where she served meals daily and offered a catering service.
She was currently a member of the Galena Business Council, serving on the board of directors and as treasurer.
Ms. Massey loved playing and coaching softball for the Galena Women's League and was an avid bowler with the Chestertown League, where she traveled nationally to compete.
She took pride in the community and loved cooking for them.
Ms. Massey is survived by her sister, Juanita Matthews of Sudlersville; three brothers, Richard Massey and his wife Joan of Hauser, Idaho, Dane Jackson and his wife Gail of Barclay and Bryan Jackson and his wife Katie of Sudlersville; a stepfather, Charles Jackson of Sudlersville; an aunt, Jean Jackson; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Friday in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, where funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Burial will be in the Galena Cemetery.
Memorials may be offered to Chester River Hospital Foundation, c/o the Manor, 100 Brown St., Chestertown, MD 21620.
