DOVER - Joanne Emily Short passed away Friday, June 17, 2016 surrounded by her family while on vacation in Chincoteague, Virginia. Mrs. Short was born June 4, 1944 in Rome, N.Y. to the late Charles Haines and Eileen Benner Haines. She worked for Playtex as a mail clerk for 35 years, and then a substitute custodian for Caesar Rodney School District for 10 years retiring this past March. Mrs. Short enjoyed going to the Modern Maturity Center in Dover, cutting grass, camping, and spending time with her family and grandchildren. She was extremely social and "Didn't know a stranger". In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Clifton James Short. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Ann short of Dover and Nancy Louise Jester and her husband John of Felton; grandchildren, Harley Dee and John Clifton Jester; her "fur grandbabies", Belle, Charlie Boy and Pip Pip. Funeral services will be held 1p.m., Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover, DE 19904 where friends may call Monday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover, De. In lieu of flowers the family suggested contributions be made to Seasons Hospice, 220 Continental Drive, Suite 101, Newark, DE 19713.
