After gathering with family on Christmas Eve and ending the evening watching "It's a Wonderful Life", Jeannette Lester Ferguson passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 25, 2021 at home. Jeannette was born with her twin sister, Joanne, to the late James Shelburn Lester and Enola Dryden Lester Nock of Salisbury, Md., on September 30, 1930. She was predeceased by her parents, son (Gregory), and sister (Joanne).
She graduated from Caesar Rodney High School in 1947 and started working as a secretary at various places. She most enjoyed her time as the secretary at William Henry Middle School for 21 years and often talked about the children and staff at the school. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching football on Sunday afternoons.
Jeannette was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her beloved husband, James Leland Ferguson of 67 years; her sister, Peggy Abbott; her son and daughter-in-law, James and Joy Ferguson, Jr.,; daughter, Jamie F. Sterner; grandchildren, Jennifer Divita, Benjamin Dulin, Adam Dulin, Matthew Ferguson, Marjorie Sterner, and Melissa Sterner; eight great grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd. (Rt10) with visitation one hour before at the funeral home. Interment will follow the funeral at Lakeside Cemetery, Dover, Del.
