MILLSBORO - James V. Kelley, of Millsboro and Simi Valley, Calif., formerly of Newark, died Sunday, March 30, 2008, at his daughter's home in Simi Valley. He was 84.

Mr. Kelley was born in Pittsburgh on April 11, 1923, son of the late James Kelley and Sarah A. (Hindes) Kelley.

A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he bravely served his country during the Normandy Invasion and in the European Theater.

Mr. Kelley was a systems operator by profession and was employed with Delmarva Power until his retirement in the late 1970s.

Active in his community, he was a longtime and devoted member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Newark.

Mr. Kelley was also a life member of Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Fire Co., Newark; Moose Lodge 1959, Simi Valley; and the Indian River Yacht Club, Millsboro.

He also remained very involved in veterans organizations throughout his life, including J. Allison O'Daniel Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 475, Newark, where he was a life member and past post commander; American Legion Post 28, Millsboro; and AMVETS Post 2.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Theresa (Truskey) Kelley, in 2003; a son, Richard D. Kelley, in 2001; a brother, Richard Kelley; and two sisters, Gladys Kelley and Grace Kelley.

He is survived by two children, James W. "Corky" Kelley and his wife Patty of Millsboro and Patricia "Pat" Sutton and her husband Tom of Simi Valley; a brother, Charles Kelley and his wife Mary of Millsboro; two sisters, Rose Alexander and her husband Robert of Newark and Anna Reynolds and her husband Harold of Chesapeake City, Md.; four grandchildren, James Kelley, Samantha Kelley, Clifford Sutton and Colleen Antenelli; and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, where friends may call after 10 a.m.

Interment will follow in Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery, 525 Polly Drummond Hill Road, Newark.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ladies Auxiliary of J. Allison O'Daniel VFW Post 475, 100 Veterans Drive, Newark, DE 19711; or to the Indian River Yacht Club Ladies Auxiliary, P.O. Box 1566, Millsboro, DE 19966.
