James Steven Gsell, 61

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - James Steven Gsell, of Chestertown, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, at Washington Hospital Center. He was 61.

Mr. Gsell was born March 21, 1946, in Chestertown, to Ruth (Harrington) Gsell of Chestertown and the late Clifford Gsell.

He attended Chestertown High School.

Mr. Gsell worked as a farm manager for 18 years with Springfield Farms.

He was a member of the FFA and enjoyed farming, gardening, fishing, boating and recreational crabbing, and won several corn growing contests.

Mr. Gsell also enjoyed singing karaoke, dancing and playing sports with his grandchildren.

He spent last summer helping his oldest grandchild, Jonathan, rebuild and prepare a garden tractor for lawnmower pulling, which thoroughly enriched both their lives.

In addition to his mother and devoted wife, Charity Andrea Gsell, whom he married May 30, 1964, Mr. Gsell is survived by two daughters, Teresa A. Gsell of Chestertown and Rita H. Naundorf of Still Pond; a son, James S. Gsell Jr. of Cambridge; a sister, Patricia Unruh of Chestertown; three brothers, Joseph Gsell of Chestertown, Thomas Gsell of Kennedyville and William Gsell of Salisbury; three grandchildren, Jonathan Naundorf, Katharin Gsell and Matthew Gsell; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are welcome to call Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown.

A memorial service and reception will be Sunday, Oct. 21, at 1 p.m. at the American Legion Post 228, Rock Hall.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Heart Association-Kent County, 861 Washington Ave., Chestertown, MD 21620.
