James 'Jim' Homer, 80
SMYRNA, Del. - James "Jim" Homer passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Delaware.
Jim was born on April 7, 1941 in Seattle, Washington the son of the late James D.G.Homer and Catherine (Smith) Homer.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Claire the love of his life; and their daughter, Julie Zigment and her husband Robert of Whiteford, Maryland and their children Joshua Wienecke, Julianna Barna and her husband Justin and their children Jordyn and Jace Barna, Madison Smith, Aiden and Calen Zigment. Daughter Jennifer Eckardt and husband Shea of Clearwater, Florida and their children Anna, Schafer and Olivia Eckardt.
Jim served his country in the United States Navy.
He graduated from the University of Baltimore College. His first career was in accounting as Treasurer of a Steam Ship Company. However, he had to follow his heart and went into Law Enforcement. It was in his blood. He spent the next 30 years in the Baltimore City Police Department. His father spent his life as a career FBI Agent. Therefore, law enforcement was truly his calling.
After his retirement Jim and Claire decided to leave BelAir, Maryland and move to slower lower Delaware. For the past 15 years they made Spring Meadow in Smyrna, Delaware their home.
Jim was the most loving, caring husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Nothing was ever too much trouble when it came to his family. He had a passion for reading and research. Jim was the go to person when you needed answers. However, without a doubt his greatest gift was his sense of humor and ability to make people laugh. He was a natural. Jim would tell his grandchildren "I want to be remembered as the granddad that made you laugh." No doubt he will be accomplishing that in heaven and maybe even getting himself in a little mischief........that is true to Jim's nature.
Funeral Services: Viewing will be on Sunday, January 30, 2022 from 2 – 4 p.m. in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 South Main Street in Smyrna.
