James H. Ross Jr. (Jim/Reds) of Smyrna passed away peacefully at Pinnacle Rehabilitation & Health Center on May 9, 2022.
Jim was born September 17, 1935, in Smyrna, the son of the late James H. Ross Sr. and Sarah P. (Bennett) Ross.
Jim worked as a security guard for General Foods and later retired. He also operated several petrol stations in the 60s. He and his wife were horse owners who enjoyed watching and wagering on horse races. They spent their summers in Rehoboth Shores and their winters in Florida, where they also liked dog racing. For the last five years, he has been in the direct care of his great-niece/guardian, Amber Robinson. Jim loves Jesus, reading his Bible, and spending time with his loving companion, Esther Barthelmeh, at the modern maturity Center, where they enjoyed playing bingo and singing karaoke.
In addition to his parents, Jim was proceeded in death by his wife of 55 years, Betty (Webber) Ross; sister, Shirley (Ross) Halfen; brother-in-laws Ray E. Calloway, John M. Halfen Sr., Jim Alexander and sister-in-law Joyce Webber.
Jim is survived by his two sisters Barbara Calloway, Frances (Enos) Gingerich; sister-in-law Thelma Alexander; brother-in-law Bill Webber, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, May 12, at Trader Funeral home from 12-1 p.m. with services beginning at 1 p.m. Burial will be immediately followed at Sharon Hill Cemetery.
