MILFORD - James H. "Jim" Irvin Jr. of Milford, formerly of Claymont, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 28, 2007, at home, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 76.
Mr. Irvin was born Aug. 19, 1930, in Chester, Pa., son of the late James H. and Helen (Maddox) Irvin.
He graduated from Claymont High School.
Mr. Irvin was employed as a crane operator/rigger for 38 years with Sun Oil Co., Marcus Hook, Pa., where he was also a member of the Sun Co. Honor Club. He retired in 1988.
He loved gardening and spending time with his two loving canine companions, Shana and Nikki.
Mr. Irvin is survived by his wife of 17 years, Ruth M. (Haines) Irvin; a son, Jeffery Irvin of Wilmington; two stepdaughters, Jacqulyn M. Taylor and her husband Clifford of Thornville, Ohio, and Karen E. MacCord of Middletown; two stepsons, Ronald F. Syva and his wife Debbie of Wilmington and Richard K. Syva and his wife Deborah of Clayton; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Betty Irvin of Wilmington; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jane and Michael Tischer of Dover; four grandchildren; and eight great- grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave., Milford, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.
Burial will be private.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice, Sussex County Unit, Georgetown Professional Park, Suite 107, 600 DuPont Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947.
