James 'Jim' Earl Acker, 74

DOVER - James "Jim" Earl Acker of Dover passed away Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 74.

Jim was born April 3, 1933, in Boaz, Ala., to the late Corbet Acker and Ludie (Davis) Acker Propes.

After high school he joined the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1980 in Dover.

Thereafter, he ran his own photography business, William Henry Associates, for 20 years.

Jim loved photography, stargazing and teaching.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, The Sierra Club and Delmarva Stargazers.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Generosa Acker; two daughters, Kathleen Acker Donnelly of Raleigh, N.C., and Renee Crouser of Atlanta, Ga.; his sister, Kathleen Rollins Tucker of Niles, Mich.; five grandchildren, Gena Layton, Andrea Donnelly, Patrick Donnelly, Caitlyn Crouser and Terry James Crouser; and two great-grandsons.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 p.m. Friday in Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State St., Dover.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Del. 10), Dover.

Interment will be private.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720.
