MILTON - James E. "Jim" Porter, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017.
Jim was born in Harrington, to the late John and Mary (Legates) Porter. He moved to Wilmington to be with his high school sweetheart and they married in 1963. He worked for Pathmark as a meat cutter for over 35 years and moved to Milton in 2003 to enjoy his retirement. Jim made sure that his family came first. He always made time to support his grandchildren in whatever activity they were doing at the time. He enjoyed bowling and was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, and fishing on his boat. After losing his wife he became a volunteer for Delaware Hospice where he met Regina Hansen. They enjoyed each other's time and travelling.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene Porter; daughters, Gail and Susan Porter; siblings, John 'Junior' Porter Jr., Joyce Shockley, and Julia Quillen.
He is survived by his son, James Michael Porter and his wife Dawn; grandchildren, Hunter and Meadow Porter, and Cynthia Clancy; brother, Norman 'Jack' Porter; sister, Doris Greenly; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
A memorial service will be held in the sanctuary of Milford Church of God, 500 N. Walnut St., Milford on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017 at 12 p.m. A time of visitation will take place from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m.
In lieu of flowers donations in Jim's memory can be made to: Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963 or Milford Church of God, 500 N. Walnut St., Milford, DE 19963.
