James E. Herd

HOUSTON - James E. Herd, Sr. passed away Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013 at Bayhealth/Milford Memorial Hospital. James was born in Milford, son of the late Andy Sr., and Lenora (Murray) Herd. He was a custodian for 42 years for Polytech High School in Woodside, retiring in 2007. James enjoyed rabbit hunting and baseball; especially the Philadelphia Phillies. He loved Dodge's and being a handyman. He was a former member of the Houston VFC. He especially loved spoiling his grandchildren and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Herd is preceded in death by two brothers, William Herd and Andy Herd, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Jane (Wood) Herd; seven children, James E. Herd, Jr., and wife Donna, of Greenwood, Andy Herd and wife Becky, of Lincoln, William "Bumper" Herd and wife Kathy, of Harrington, Charlotte Abbott and husband Brent, of Milford, Michael Herd and wife Kim, of Blades, April Morton and husband Danny, of Harrington and Justin Herd, of Houston; 13 grandchildren, Jimmy, Cody, Dylan, Morgan, Alison, AJ, Adele, Aiden, Alex, Seren, Ethan, Kamree and Ainsley; a sister, Joyce Herd, of Houston; and his dog, Misty. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013 in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front Street, Milford with visitation Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m. Burial will be in Milford Community Cemetery.
