DOVER - James E. Gray, Jr. died Sunday May 10, 2015 at home, surrounded by his family. He was born Sept. 16, 1946 in Milford, Delaware to James E. Gray, Sr., and Jacqueline Truitt Gray. A graduate of the Charlotte Hill Military Academy, he was a businessman and entrepreneur, including owning and operating the Dover landmark Kirby and Holloway Family Restaurant since 1984. Additionally, he was a mentor, public servant, active in Democrat politics, advocate for underprivileged and disadvantaged people. He served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for children in Family Court. Additionally, he served on the Delaware Human Relations Commission. Mr. Gray was a member and Past President of the Smyrna-Clayton Rotary Club, the Sons of the American Revolution, and Past President Delaware Restaurant Association. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Kitty Gray. Jim is survived by his wife of 35 years Kathleen Accetta Gray, of Dover; four sons, James E. Gray, III and wife Lisa, Brian P. Gray and wife Nicole, Philip B. Gray, and Daniel W. Gray ; four daughters, Beth Fleming, Katie Cooke and husband Jason, Annie Gray-Smaldone and husband Jayme, and Laura Gray; and nine grandsons; brother Robert Gray; and sister Jane Gray. A visitation will be held at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 14. Interment will be private. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed. We thank him for his devotion and love. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Friends of CASA Association, PO Box 320, Montchanin, DE 19710.
