James D. Satterfield Sr., 63

FELTON - James D. Satterfield Sr. of Felton died Monday, March 5, 2007, in his home. He was 63.

James was born in Greensboro, Md., son of the late Carroll D. and Mildred Satterfield.

He was a farmer. For the past 32 years he raised chickens, stopping last year when he had to give them up due to doctor's orders. On the farm, he also enjoyed raising pigs, cows and even sheep.

When not busy with the farm, James enjoyed going to auctions. He also loved to help with the local 4-H Club and attend their functions whenever he was able. He helped the children with their projects, helped take care of their animals and made sure they got a fair price when they sold their animals.

He had a way with animals and often got one that no one else could handle. He also had a way with sick animals and enjoyed making them well by using different medicines. Tuesday was his favorite day of the week because it was pig day.

James enjoyed working with his skid loader, and for several years cleaned out area chicken houses. He was always willing to help others who needed his help, even when he did not feel well.

He loved all his children and grandchildren, and he gave them all nicknames. He always had a smile on his face, even when he did not feel good. His willingness to help and his devotion to his family and friends will be greatly missed.

James was a member of the Delaware Farm Bureau.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Carroll and Charles Satterfield; and a sister, Virginia Taylor.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Patricia Satterfield of Felton; his sons and a daughter-in-law, James D. Jr. and Denise Satterfield of Felton and Charles Franklin Satterfield of Felton; a daughter, Julia B. Albanese of Hammond, La.; his brothers and sisters-in-law, William W. and Margaret Ann Satterfield of Greensboro, John H. Satterfield of Greensboro and Robert and Elizabeth Satterfield of Sudlersville; his sisters and a brother-in-law, Etta Louise Smith of Farmington and Phyllis Ann and Bruce Loftland of Felton; his grandchildren, Jessica B. Kemp, Jenna M. Kenton and Aaron R. Kenton; his great-grandchildren, Dylan J. Greenly, Hannah B. Kemp and Kiersten M. Mosier; and his adopted family, John and Jeanie Fabi and their children, Amanda and Megan Fabi.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Highway, Harrington. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
