James Clifton Custis

MILLSBORO - James (Jim aka "Buttons") Clifton Custis, Sr. was born in Exmore, Va., March 14, 1929, to the late Berline Baines and Stanley Custis.
As a young man, Jim moved to Dover, to work as a truck driver and "waterman" (commercial fisherman). Eventually, he began working at Outten Brothers and as an independent contractor for Jack Parker Enterprises, for over 26 years as a carpet installer. Thereafter he continued his entrepreneurial spirit and had his own select group of clients. Jim had the reputation of being the best carpet installer throughout the Delmarva Peninsula.
On Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018, in his infinite wisdom, God called his soldier home. He departed this earth quietly and peacefully surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 89 years old. He was preceded in death by his sons, Lamont Harmon, Samuel Leggins and his siblings, Forest Custis and Elizabeth Giddiens.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife, Annie J. Custis; a son, James Custis (Nicole); daughters, Eva (Terrance) Wellman, Debbie Harmon, Anna Harmon (Mike) of Bear; Sonya Gholson, of Eastern Shore, Va.; fourteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of additional family and friends.
A Celebration of Life for Jim will be held at St. Johns 2nd Baptist Church, 26602 Mount Joy Road, Millsboro, DE 19966 on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018.
