RICHMOND, Va. - Jamal Nasir of Richmond was born April 17, 1984, and departed this life Thursday, May 24, 2007, in Richmond. He was 23.

Jamal was born in New York City, son of Lorraine and Abdul K. Nasir. The youngest of his siblings, he leaves behind one sister, Naima, and one brother, Malik.

He attended Smith Street Elementary School in Uniondale, N.Y., and Buckingham County Middle and High schools in Dillwyn, Va. He also attended Virginia Commonwealth University as a business major in Richmond for four years.

Jamal was one of many grandchildren to his paternal grandparents, Rebecca Alexander and the late Joseph Alexander. The relatives left behind on his paternal side include six uncles, Joseph Jr., Michael, Richard, Donald, David and Shawn; four aunts, Brenda, Patricia, Bernice and Linda; and a host of cousins, to include Darlene, Bridgette, Davell, Tiffany, Ivory and Adrian, to name a few.

He was also one of many grandchildren to his maternal grandparents, the late Lorraine Hammond and Sam Hammond. The relatives he left behind on his maternal side include three uncles, Ralph, Ray and Gary; and an aunt, Ann. Also included are a host of cousins, to include Davon, Teashon, Pamela, Ralph Jr., Ray Jr., Corey and Jameelah, also to name a few.

In addition, he left behind a person that was very special to him, Keishana Bethea, his girlfriend.

Jamal will be missed by his many friends, classmates and acquaintances.

Even though his term on this Earth was short, he experienced many adventures and he was not afraid to spread his wings. Jamal was very personable, and he had a bright smile. He had a serious side as well, and always talked about his aspirations. Jamal did things his way, in a manner that left some people envious of him. But, he has completed his term, and this beautiful loan that was made to us 23 years ago has been given back to his Maker.

Services were held May 31 in Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover, Del. Burial was in Gibbs Memorial Cemetery, Woodside, Del.
