J. Ernest Marine, "Uncle Ernie," went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 4, 2021, a few months after his 100th birthday, at Acts Manor House in Seaford, Delaware. He was a WWII veteran who proudly served in the U.S. Navy.
Uncle Ernie was born July 7, 1921 in Sharptown, Maryland, a son of the late James E. and Etta (Goslee) Marine. He married the love of his life, Etta Holloway on May 29, 1942 and were married for 71 ½ years. For many years they resided in Laurel, Delaware before moving to Florida. Uncle Ernie worked at AI DuPont in Seaford, Delaware, and from there joined the U.S. Navy and served his country during WWII. After the war, he opened his jewelry store, Marine Jewelers, in Laurel, Delaware.
He was an avid waterman in his earlier days and loved to play golf, play pinochle with family and friends and really loved to play bingo at Acts Manor House. Uncle Ernie was a baseball fan who loved to follow his Miami Marlins. He also shared his time and talents in many organizations, such as the Grand Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Delaware from where he became a Shriner. He was also a member of the Laurel Lions Club for years and ushered in his church, Centenary United Methodist Church in Laurel and at his church in Florida.
Uncle Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, Etta and Ernest Marine; and his beloved wife, Etta Marine.
He is survived by nephews, Alan Holloway (Petie), Buddy Holloway (Pam) and Gary Holloway (Janet); great nephews, Chad Holloway (Kristen), Kyle Holloway (Heather), Shawn Holloway and Robert Holloway; and a great niece, Ashley Brooks (Matt).
A service will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church in Laurel.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Centenary United Methodist Church, 200 W. Market Street, Laurel, DE 19956.
