BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) — Bryant Wesco Jr. had Clemson’s first punt return touchdown in eight years to break a tie late in the third quarter and the Tigers went on to beat California 24-10 in a game where both offenses struggled. Both Clemson and Cal struggled to generate much offense in the first matchup between the schools since the Golden Bears joined the ACC in 2024. The teams combined for one offensive touchdown until Gideon Davidson put the game away with a 75-yard run with 2:59 to play. Davidson finished with 159 yards rushing and two TDs.
UNDATED (AP) — No. 16 Louisville hosts Wake Forest on Saturday to headline the Week 4 slate for the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Cardinals are coming off a win against a ranked SMU team in a matchup of the top contenders to preseason ACC favorite Miami. Wake Forest lost at home to Miami on Friday night. The slate includes Clemson and Georgia Tech making their first cross-country trips for league games since the ACC's expansion for a coast-to-coast footprint ahead of the 2024 season. The schedule includes another chance for national rushing leader Nate Sheppard at Duke to add to his gaudy stats.
DALLAS (AP) — Kevin Jennings has gone from a largely overlooked high school quarterback five years ago to the centerpiece of a Heisman Trophy campaign as a senior with No. 22 SMU. Before the Mustangs and then new-coach Rhett Lashlee offered him a scholarship, Jennings' only Division I offer was from then-FCS team Missouri State. Jennings and the Mustangs host Missouri State on Saturday night. The new Bears coach is Casey Woods, who was SMU's offensive coordinator the past four seasons. The game is also a matchup of longtime friends Lashlee and Woods, who as young coaches together at Auburn were part of Tigers’ 2010 national championship.
