HARTLY - Herbert S. Hitchner III of Hartly died of complications from a long illness on Friday, July 6, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 59.

Mr. Hitchner was born Feb. 2, 1948, in Wilmington, to the late Herbert S. and Catherine Hitchner

He proudly served for three years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He was a self-employed heating and air conditioning installation and repairman.

Mr. Hitchner loved playing horseshoes and pool with his family and friends. He was always available to repair heaters and air conditioners for his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Hitchner.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Lane Smith Hitchner of Newport News, Va.; a son, Herbert Samuel Hitchner IV of Dover; a daughter, Janie Lynn Loffland of Delaware; stepsons, Tom, Bobby, John and Gene Barnes; brothers, Robert and Edward Hitchner of Marydel; grandchildren, Samuel and Zackary Gage Hitchner of Cheswold, Loni Tucker of Newport News, Shannon Grace and Brianna Elizabeth Barnes of New Castle, Robert Allee and Daniel Thomas Barnes of Glade Water, Texas; great-grandchildren, Jaymes Daniel Isaiah Williams and Alona Sky McKenzie Tucker of Newport News; nieces, Crystal Ensley, Diane Martin, Tina Small of Dover; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Barnes of Newport News; and a sister-in-law, Mickey Hitchner of Marydel, Md.

A Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 514 Main St., Marydel.

Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
