Herbert J. Pierce

Camden-Wyoming - Herbert J. "Herbie" Pierce passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital.
Mr. Pierce was born on Feb. 17, 1955 in Bridgeton, N.J. to the late Morris Pierce and Anna Margaret Miller Pierce.
He was passionate about cooking starting his career at the Hickory Steakhouse in Bridgeton, N.J. as a dishwasher, later to become the chef he was today. He worked at The Sands Hotel Casino in Atlantic City, N.J. until he moved to Delaware; where he continued his love for cooking at The Blue Coat Inn, Dover Downs Hotel & Casino, Countrie Eatery, Olive Garden, Sheraton Hotel, and Kirby & Holloway. He retired in 2017 but still continued to cook at the Countrie Eatry. He was an avid sports fan especially for the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Phillies, 76ers, and Flyers. Every time he watched sports; you could hear him arguing with the television as if he were at the game. He also enjoyed playing cards weekly with relatives.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Morris B. "Buster" Pierce Jr., Leona B. "Sissy" Pierce, Victoria C. "Vicky" Harmon, Benjamin "Benny" Pierce, Mary E. Pierce, Sarah Pierce and Arlene Pierce; brother-in-laws, Anthony "Tony" Seeney, Luther "Jakie" Sammons and James "Jimmy" Sammons.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Shelia Sammons Pierce of Camden-Wyoming; daughters, Arlene Torres (Julio) of Smyrna and Ashley Pierce and companion Michael Blanchard Jr. of Camden-Wyoming; grandchildren, Alexis Pierce, Marco Torres, Marissa Torres, Adrianna Torres, Julio Torres Jr., Emilio Torres and Mateo Torres; siblings, Geraldine Durham, Richard Pierce (Margaret), Ellis Pierce (Pat), Pearl Brown (Roney), Betty Sheppard, Donald Pierce (Melissa), Delilah Warner (Lee), Jane Pierce, Janet Stevenson (Johnathon), Ricky Pierce; Godson, Keith Seeney; father-in-law, Luther Jake Sammons; sister-in-laws, Wanda Seeney, Brenda Sammons, Anita Sammons, Lori Sammons; and a host of nieces and nephews. His very close friends, John Koutoufaris and Steven Webb.
Herbie was loved and will be greatly missed by many.
Funeral services will be held 12 p.m., Friday, Aug. 3, 2018 at Immanuel Union United Methodist Church, 756 Main Street, Cheswold, DE 19936. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Interment will be at Fork Branch Cemetery, Dover.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions to be sent to Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover, DE 19904, to help defray funeral expenses.
