CAMDEN, Del. - Henry Lloyd "Butch" Alexander, Jr. passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Bayhealth Kent Campus.
He was born on September 27, 1945, in Niagara Falls, N.Y. to the late Henry Lloyd Alexander, Sr. and Catherine May Connolly. He was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. He received both his bachelor's degree and master's degree in applied ecology and entomology from the University of Delaware.
Mr. Alexander started as a biologist and eventually became the Director of Fish and Wildlife for the State of Delaware. After retirement, he enjoyed working for the Ohio State University Veterinary School. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a longtime member of both Christ Episcopal Church Dover and All Saints' Episcopal Church Rehoboth. He dedicated his time helping others most notably the Boy Scouts of America, Red Cross, Delaware Food Bank, and 4-H. He was an avid hunter and conservationist. He took pleasure in traveling and visited all 50 states and the seven continents. He loved cats and dogs and adopted many throughout his life. He enjoyed skiing, sailing, and his time in Rehoboth Beach. He was known for his love of chocolate.
In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his sister, Ann Constance Hoffman.
Mr. Alexander is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Ann Seltzer Alexander of Camden, Del.; son, Benjamin Lloyd Alexander (Natalie) of Newark, Del.; daughter, Elizabeth Connolly Alexander (Ryan Berg) of Washington, DC; nieces/nephews, Catherine Lynch, William Hoffman, and Linda Hoffman; and granddaughters, Anna Marie, Elizabeth, and Elena Alexander and Cameron Berg.
Visitation will be Friday, May 6, 2022, from 6–8 p.m. at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, Del. Funeral will be Saturday, May 7, 2022, at 3 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 523 South State Street, Dover, Del.
