Helen P. Mitchell, 82 DOVER - Mrs. Helen P. Mitchell, age 82, of Dover, formerly of New Castle and Felton, died on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009. Born in Chestertown, Md., on Feb. 25, 1927, Mrs. Mitchell was a daughter of the late Arthur J. Pinder and Clara Merchant Pinder. She was a graduate of Goldey-Beacom College, earning her degree in secretarial administration, and was employed with Jackson Marine Sales in North East, Md., for many years. A longtime volunteer with Foster Grandparents of Delaware, Mrs. Mitchell mentored at-risk children in Dover-area elementary schools. She was a member of Wyoming United Methodist Church. In her leisure hours she enjoyed embroidery, bingo, and pokeno with her friends at Luther Village. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, John E. "Jack" Mitchell, Sr., in 2004; and by her son, John E. Mitchell, Jr. in 2002. She is survived by her daughter, Susan L. Mitchell-Dunn and husband, Michael Sr., of Washington D.C.; daughter-in-law, Marsha Mitchell; sister, Doris Barnard of California; and grandchildren, Devon Dunn, Michael Dunn, Jr., Jordan Dunn, Craig Mitchell, Joshua Mitchell, and Richard Roach. A funeral service will be 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 4, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
