WILMINGTON - Helen Margaret (Wisniewski) Sabbato, a lifelong resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully Friday evening, March 16, 2007, at Broadmeadow Health Care in Middletown. She was 86.
Born in Wilmington on Sept. 13, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Antoni and Helena (Dombrowski) Wisniewski.
Helen graduated from St. Hedwig's School in Wilmington.
She was a devoted member of St. Helena's Church for 54 years.
Helen worked for Hyman Reiver in retail sales for 25 years, until 1982, and thought to retire early. With so much energy, she went back to work with Wilmington Dry Goods for another 10 years. After retirement, Helen and her husband Alex spent much of their time at the Sellers Senior Center. Following Alex's death, she carried on alone and was a vital part and active member of that community since 1980.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Alexander John Sabbato, in August 1994.
She is survived by a son, Ronald Phillip Sabbato and his wife Joan (DeNight) Sabbato of Middletown; two grandsons, Phillip Christian Sabbato and his wife Tracey (Storey) Sabbato of Chesapeake, Va., and Ronald Brett Sabbato and his wife Dawn (Palmer) Sabbato of Middletown; and two great-grandsons, Zachary Phillip Sabbato of Chesapeake, and Brayden Alexander Sabbato of Middletown.
A memorial mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Helena's Roman Catholic Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington. Interment will be held privately at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Sellers Senior Center, 500 Duncan Road, Wilmington, DE 19809; St. Helena's Roman Catholic Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE 19809; or to Delaware Hospice Inc., 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE 19810.
Arrangements by Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, Middletown.
