MILLSBORO - Helen Mae Moore Wilkins of Millsboro passed away Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, in Green Valley Terrace where she had resided since 2004. She was 88.
Mrs. Wilkins was born Sept. 3, 1918, near Millsboro, daughter of the late Joshua Richard and Alice Jennie (Cordrey) Moore.
She lived in Salisbury, Md., from 1943 to 1950. She worked at Diamond State Telephone Company and Chesapeake Telephone Co. in Salisbury before returning to Georgetown in 1950. She worked at the office of the Attorney General from 1950 to 1955, and later worked for several local attorneys until 1961, when she began working for Megee Plumbing Co. as secretary and bookkeeper. She retired from this position in 1981.
Following the tragic death of their daughter in 1969, Mr. and Mrs. Wilkins became more actively involved in the work of the Mary Rebekah and IOOF lodges throughout the state of Delaware. Mrs. Wilkins became president of the Rebekah Assembly of Delaware in 1973 after serving in many other capacities throughout the state. She remained active as long as her health permitted.
In 2002, she moved to Heritage at Milford and in 2004 to Green Valley Terrace in Millsboro.
Mrs. Wilkins was a member of Zoar United Methodist Church. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Georgetown for a period of time, but later transferred her membership back to Zoar where she had attended as a child.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Robert J. Wilkins; her daughter, Cheryl Jean Wilkins Vanderslice; four brothers, Raymond Moore, Leroy "Pete" Moore, Alton E. Moore and R. Carlton Moore; and two sisters, Ella M. Johnson and Grace M. Smith.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews, Pat Dorey, Ruth Hudson, Richard Johnson, Bob Moore, Bill Moore and Carol White; and her faithful and special friend, Virginia Pepper of Georgetown.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday in Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour earlier. The Rev. Dr. Ed Wilkins will officiate
Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Georgetown.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Zoar United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 24463 Gravel Hill Road, Millsboro, DE 19966.
