Helen Georges, 84

DOVER - Helen Georges, of Dover, confronted death as she confronted life, with character, courage, and dignity. The unexpected second fight with an aggressive form of breast cancer brought her four children into a continuous day and night vigil of caring and love. She passed away at home on Friday, March 7, 2008. She was 84.

She was born on Aug. 14, 1923, to Polish immigrants. She was born and raised in Gary, Ind.

Helen had an amazing talent in relating to children.

She was happiest when playing games with her young grandchildren.

The games came out and the fun began every time there was a visit. They looked forward to the occasions as much as she did.

The game times were a joy to behold. Her grandchildren were all beneficiaries of her patience and the ongoing mutual relationship of love and caring.

One of Helen's greatest experiences as a young mother came when she accepted the responsibility of teaching kindergarten at the Dover Presbyterian Church in the 1960s.

She was so proud of her class when they were in a program with other classes.

"They were always so good," she would say. (It was a very special compliment to her teaching skills and love of children).

The extra time in preparing crafts and special projects at home for the next day's class was time spent doing what she enjoyed the most.

Helen was a very talented seamstress, sewing clothes, prom dresses and Halloween costumes.

She was an employee of Dannemann's and also worked at J.C. Penney in the drapery department.

Helen was an extraordinary mother and homemaker.

There was always a place for everything and everything had its place.

Mealtimes were happy times and the family knew there would be things they liked on the table. If you were late, it was OK, but the meal time was on-time all the time.

As her mobility diminished in her twilight years, she enjoyed working her daily Wonderword puzzles and watching her game show TV programs.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Chester of Dune Acres, Ind., and Mac of Lowell, Ind.

Helen will be sorely missed by her husband of 59 years, M. William Georges; her children, Linda Burdick of Dover, William J. Georges and wife Sandra of Camden, Janet Lacey of Roswell, Ga., and Joyce Giguere and husband Bill of North Smithfield, R.I.; grandchildren include Brooks and Shawn DeRyder, Kimberly Burdick, Joshua and Rachael Georges, Susan Shergalis, Scott Bryan, Rebecca Giguere, Erin and Devin Lacey; great-grandson Jack Shergalis; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Special appreciation is to be given to the care and services rendered by the staff of Delaware Hospice. Their loving, kind, and efficient services to the deceased and her family has been outstanding and will always be treasured.

Interment will be by cremation by Pippin Funeral Home.

Burial will be at the Veterans Memorial Park near Georgetown. There will be a family gathering for a farewell Celebration of Life service at a time to be determined.

Letters of condolences may be sent via www.pippinfuneralhome.com.
