Heber Ray Torbert, 92

CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Heber Ray Torbert of Chesapeake died Sunday, July 22, 2007, in his residence. He was 92.

Mr. Torbert was born in Sussex County, Del., and was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Johnson Torbert, and a son, Bruce Alan Torbert.

He was a retired accountant for Union 76 with 42 years of service.

Mr. Torbert was a life member of the Loyal Order of Moose.

He is survived by two daughters, Gertrude Ann Walker Bennett and her husband Donald Charles of Chesapeake, and Christina Marie (Torbert) O"Neill of Norfolk; two sons, Johnny Ray of Virginia Beach, and Jeffrey Trent Torbert of Norfolk; three granddaughters, Kelly Ann Walker Doss and her husband Timothy Wayne and Patricia Marie Walker, both of Chesapeake, and Elizabeth Rae-Ann O"Neill of Norfolk; three great-granddaughters, his little angels, Alexis, Emoni and Breona, all of Chesapeake; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives who will remember him as the "Card Man."

A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, Virginia Beach, with Pastor Mike Putnam officiating.

Burial will follow in Colonial Grove Memorial Park, Chesapeake.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
