She was born Aug. 27, 1913 in Keller, Virginia, a daughter of the late Joseph R. and Maggie Lou Mears Chambers. Hazel retired after many years of working as a beautician at Dot Layton's Beauty Shop in Laurel. Her unwavering devotion to God, her family and helping others was obvious through her active membership at the Laurel Nazarene Church for over 60 years. For many years she served as the church's treasurer and Sunday school teacher. She is survived by two nieces, Virginia Farrelly and her husband, Eddie and Sandy Russell, who she raised as her own, and her husband, Dick, all of Laurel; three sisters, Anna Mae Nicely of Delmar, Danielle Bisson and her husband Bill of Salisbury and Mildred Brumbley of Fruitland; and several other special nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, William Brink Hearn; her second husband, Alfred B. McGee; two sisters, Margaret Crockett and Lois Kellam; two brothers, Milton Chambers and Joseph "Buck" Chambers; and a special niece, Louise Scaggs. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 12:00 noon at the Laurel Nazarene Church, where family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to noon. Pastors Ralph Fraser and Larry Whaley will officiate. Interment will follow the services at Asbury Cemetery in Georgetown. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Laurel Nazarene Church, P.O. Box 705, Laurel, Delaware 19956. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
