Harry E. 'Hurricane' Smith, 77

TOWNSEND - Harry E. "Hurricane" Smith, of Townsend, passed away at home on Friday, Feb. 22, 2008. He was 77.

Mr. Smith was born June 24, 1930, in Riverside, N.J., son of the late John Smith and Effie Morris Antone.

He was a self-employed commercial waterman.

Mr. Smith enjoyed doing farm work.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Middletown Veterans of Foreign Wars.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Teresa A. Thompson.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Miller Smith; a son, Joseph A. Smith of the home; two daughters, Joyce A. Green of Bear and Phyllis J. Hylton of Massey, Md.; two brothers, James and Rhesa Antone, both of Townsend; three sisters, Shirley Voss and Lavina Messick, both of Smyrna, and Debbie Huff of lower Delaware; and four grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Riley and Chloe Hylton and Shane Green.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, where friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Burial will be in Delaney's Church Cemetery, near Clayton.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720.
