ELLENDALE — A 23-year-old pedestrian from Harrington died upon being struck by a vehicle Saturday.
According to Delaware State Police, at approximately 11:16 p.m., a Toyota Avalon was traveling south on Dupont Boulevard in the left lane. A second vehicle not involved in the crash was stopped at a red light in the westbound lane of Milton Ellendale Highway.
One of the passengers exited that vehicle and started walking west through the intersection, police said. He entered the path of the Avalon, causing a collision.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, and police identified him as Malachi Gibbs on Monday.
The Avalon’s driver, a 32-year-old Milton man, sustained minor injuries.
The road was closed for approximately three hours.
The investigation continues, and police asked witnesses to call Master Cpl. K. Argo at 302-703-3264, send a message via the state police Facebook page or contact Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-847-3333.
