Hansel Malachi Pinder, 83
HOUSTON - Hansel Malachi Pinder, of Houston, died of natural causes Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at Harrison Senior Living, Georgetown. He was 83.
Mr. Pinder was born July 3, 1924, in Williamsburg, Dorchester County, Md., son of the late James A. Pinder and Grace Jackson.
He was employed for more than 35 years with civil service at Dover Air Force Base as a welder and non-destructive metal inspector, and was recognized for his accomplishments in the armed forces and as a civilian federal employee.
During his career Mr. Pinder received two Sustained Superior Performance Awards, an Outstanding Performance Rating and five Suggestion Awards by the year 1983. In 1986, he received another Sustained Superior Performance Award.
In 1988, Mr. Pinder and a co-worker invented an X-ray tube holder for C-5A cargo airplane "statutory invention." He invented a Radiographic Interpretation Trainer test system, which was patented May 12, 1992. He received an Invention Disclosure Award on Sept. 9, 1992.
President Reagan sent Mr. Pinder a letter of congratulations regarding his retirement and accomplishments as a civil servant.
He leaves to mourn his wife of 51 years, Roseanna Pinder; two daughters, Hansella and Carolyn; a stepson, Delbert Dixon and his wife Phyllis; his grandsons, Shane, Marvin, Dwayne and Gregory; a granddaughter, Phyllicia; his sisters-in-law, Alverta Pinder, Martha Dixon and Helen Harper; a goddaughter, Marcia Allen; a sister, Grethel Townsend; three brothers-in-law, Harvey Dixon, Martin Dixon and George Stevenson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Metropolitan United Methodist Church, Harrington. A viewing will begin at 9 a.m. Interment will be at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, at 2 p.m.
