KENNEDYVILLE, Md. - Gwendolyn L. Dempsey, of Kennedyville, died Dec. 26, 2008, in Chester River Hospital, Chestertown. She was 86. Mrs. Dempsey was born on Nov. 6, 1922, in Corsicana, Texas, daughter of the late Wiley and Ruby Siler Lance. She moved to Kent County in 1945, where she worked as a school bus driver for the Kent County Board of Education. She was a member of the Kennedyville United Methodist Church and their United Methodist Women, the Kennedyville Homemakers, Betterton American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and a charter member of the Kennedyville V.F.C. Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Robert Dempsey; a daughter, Norma Dempsey of Kennedyville; a son, James Dempsey and his wife Constance of Feltonville, Pa.; three brothers, Wiley Lance of Boynton, Okla., Derril Lance of Wichita Fall, Texas, and David Lance of Forth Worth, Texas; a sister, Frances McAtee of Lake Worth, Texas; two grandchildren, Shane Dempsey and Stephanie Dempsey; and two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Samara. Friends may call on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena, Md. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Kennedyville U.M. Church, Kennedyville, burial in adjoining cemetery. Donations may be offered to Kennedyville U.M. Church, P.O. Box 32, or Kennedyville V.F.C. P.O. Box 98 Kennedyville, MD 21645.
