Gloria Turner Coverdale

LAKELAND, Fla. - Gloria Turner Coverdale, of Lakeland, formally of Dover, Del., died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010, at home after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 85. Mrs. Coverdale was born March 11, 1925, in Wilmington, Del., to the late Clarence James Turner and Elsie Wilcutts Blocksom Turner. She had graduated from Wilmington High School and Delaware Hospital School of Nursing. She had worked as a Registered Nurse in Pediatrics for several Delaware hospitals. Mrs. Coverdale had volunteered at Kent General Hospital and Luther Towers. She was a member of the Ruritan Club and the First Baptist Church of Dover and most recently First Baptist Church at the Mall, Lakeland, where she served in many capacities. Mrs. Coverdale loved spending time with her family, volunteering and helping others. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, B. Hammond Coverdale, 1990; brother, George F. Turner, 1990; and sister, Etzell R.K. Coffin, 2007. She is survived by her daughters, Suzanne Jensen (James) of Smyrna, Del., and Nancy Brown (Mike) of Lakeland; and stepdaughter, Jean VanDyke (Dave) of Wilmington; sister, Irma Turner Teague of Dover; four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be 2 p.m., Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, 6486 Bay Road, Frederica. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Little Creek United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 485, Little Creek, DE 19961.
