Gladys M. Nelson

SMYRNA - Gladys M. Nelson, of Smyrna, passed away Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, in Broadmeadow Nursing Home in Middletown. She was 95. Mrs. Nelson was born Aug. 31, 1915, in Woodside, the daughter of the late Massey Minner and Mable Ford Minner. She was a homemaker who enjoyed knitting, crocheting and playing cards in her earlier years. With her late husband, Howard, she owned and operated Duck Creek Mobile Home Park in Smyrna for many years. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Smyrna where she enjoyed her time as a member of The Harvey's Bible Study Group. She was also very active with the Mar-Del Camping Club with her late husband and family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years in 1992, Howard Nelson; a son, Richard H. Nelson in 2007 and his wife Janet in 1992; and six brothers and sisters, Thelma Wright, Delbert Minner, Wolcott Minner, Mable Van Sant, Wallace Minner, and Ronald Minner. She is survived by two grandsons, Michael R. Nelson and his wife Michele of Rosedale, Md., and Dr. Bob H. Nelson of CarMichael, Calif.; a granddaughter, Deborah J. Nelson of Smyrna; a brother, Harold V. Minner and his wife Edith of Dover; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be Wednesday Feb. 9, 2011, at 3 p.m. in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, where friends may call one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery Smyrna. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society in Memory of Howard B.
