GALENA, Md. - Gerald van den Valentyn of Galena, formally of Huntington, N.Y., died peace-fully Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, in Annapolis, surrounded by his immediate family.

Mr. van den Valentyn was born March 9, 1935.

He devoted his life to his fam-ily, while always being there to lend a helping hand to friends.

He will always be cherished by his children for showing them how to be an incredible parent and spouse. He will always be remembered for his strong work ethics, display of affection, which made him more of a man, his endless corny sense of humor and his tireless commitment to his wife, family and friends.

Mr. van den Valentyn will re-main in the hearts of his family and friends forever.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Luitgard; and a sister Leonie.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nina (Quartuccio); his chil-dren, Robert, Jon, Jerry, Jo Ann and Walter; two daughters-in-law, Virginia and Rachel; a son-in-law, Eric; eight grandchildren, Tonya, Evan, Alexandria, Aaron, Eleza, Julia, Sydney and Erik; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Galena Funeral Home of Ste-phen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Friday in St. Dennis Roman Catholic Church, 153 N. Main St. Galena.

Burial will be private.
