George T. Gordy, 79 GALESTOWN, Md. - George Thomas "Peanut" Gordy, 79, of Galestown, died Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Born April 15, 1930, in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Edward King Gordy, Sr. and Sallie Tracey Gordy. He was an Army veteran who served during the Korean War and had worked many years as a long haul truck driver, working for Coldwater Seafood, and Allen Family Foods from where he retired in 1996. After his retirement, he worked for Whittington Trucking in Salisbury as a dump truck driver, retiring for a second time in 2006. He was a member of Dor-Wic American Legion Post 218, Sharptown, and attended Galestown United Methodist Church. He loved his dogs Fudge, Lady Ann, Cody T. and Cody M. He is survived by his wife, Nancy C. Wheatley Gordy of Galestown, whom he married on Nov. 7, 1999; two children, Timothy A. Gordy of Milford, Del., and Sherry Lynn Carey and her husband James of Maryville, Tenn.; two granddaughters, Taylor Gordy and Kristen Gordy; four brothers, Melvin Gordy of Denver, Colo., William Gordy of Salisbury, Donald Gordy of Mardela Springs, Bobby Gordy of Rockville; six sisters, Marian Collins of Salisbury, Eileen Jones of Delmar, Doris Good of Salisbury, Arlene Powell of Salisbury, Jane Duncan, Imogene Gordy of Ohio. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death in 1993 by his first wife, Doris Massey Gordy, whom he married in 1960; and a brother, Edward King Gordy, Jr. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 12, at Galestown United Methodist Church, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Rev. Ruth Tull and Rev. Dan Walker will officiate. Interment will follow in Oddfellows Cemetery in Seaford. Donations in memory of Mr. Gordy may be made to Four Paws Animal Hospital, George T. Gordy, Attn: Lori, P.O. Box 789, Seaford, DE 19973. The Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market is handling the arrangements.
