George Lloyd 'Bud' Kennedy Jr., 87
KENNEDYVILLE, Md. - George Lloyd "Bud" Kennedy Jr., of Kennedyville, died Monday, March 3, 2008, at the Chester River Hospital Center, Chestertown. He was 87.
Mr. Kennedy was born Dec. 25, 1920, near Kennedyville, son of the late George L. Kennedy and Blanche "Groves" Kennedy.
He was a World War II veteran, serving his country in both the U.S. Army and Air Force from 1942 to 1952.
Mr. Kennedy worked in the Kennedyville Post Office as post master.
He was a member of the Frank M. Jarman Post 36 and was a past post commander and financial officer.
Mr. Kennedy was also a charter and lifetime member of the Kennedyville Volunteer Fire Co., where he held many positions.
In the past, he enjoyed being an umpire for the Little League and camping.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Kennedy was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn "Johnnie" Kennedy; one brother, Louis Kennedy; and one sister, Miriam K. Phillips.
He is survived by one sister, Alice K. Wright of Chestertown; three nephews, Jack Wright and Wayne Wright, both of Chestertown, and Allan Wright of Tucson, Ariz.; three nieces, Lou Ann K. Ferraris of Rockledge, Fla., Lee Phillips of Worton, and Cheri Phillips of Kennedyville; several great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Lora Nowotne of Chestertown.
A visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown.
Services will be noon Saturday at the Kennedyville United Methodist Church. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be held in Kennedyville United Methodist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Kennedyville Volunteer Fire Co., P.O. Box 98, Kennedyville, MD 21645; the Kennedyville Cemetery Committee, 11979 Augustine Herman Highway, Kennedyville, MD 21645; or Frank M. Jarman Post 36, P.O. Box 322, Chestertown, MD 21620.
